The investment is already making a positive difference to the department, helping to streamline imaging workflows and support more efficient patient pathways.
The Samsung GC85 Vision systems complement the existing fleet of Samsung GM85 Mobiles X-Ray systems at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. The Combination of digital imaging technology with features intended to enhance workflow and support the delivery of high-quality diagnostic imaging.
Emily Heddon, Lead Superintendent Radiographer at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The new system has already made a positive impact within the department. Its modern technology supports faster imaging times, which improves patient comfort and improves room efficiency, helping us to improve the patient’s pathway.
“It has also reduced manual handling for staff, easing physical strain and lowering the risk of work-related musculoskeletal injury.”
The reduction in manual handling is an important benefit for radiography teams, where patient positioning and equipment movement can place significant physical demands on staff. By helping to reduce physical strain, the new systems support staff wellbeing while contributing to more efficient working practices.
For a busy hospital, efficient diagnostic imaging is essential to supporting patient care across a wide range of clinical services. The installation of five new rooms represents a significant investment in University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust’s imaging infrastructure, equipping the department with modern technology to support its ongoing service demands.
This collaborative project, undertaken with Siemens Healthineers and University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, demonstrates the importance of investing in advanced radiography systems that benefit both patients and healthcare professionals. Enhancements in room efficiency, patient comfort and staff ergonomics all contribute to optimising workflow and supporting the delivery of a high-quality, effective imaging service.
