Barrigel is a biodegradable injectable device for protection of the rectal wall when treating prostate cancer with radiation. BARRIGEL, a hyaluronic acid spacer, can be sculpted in place to achieve anatomically customised spacing, optimised to the needs of the patient. Whereas, first generation spacers, utilise fast-polymerising polyethylene glycol which can harden in the syringe or needle if injected too slowly. With BARRIGEL there is no polymerisation process, eliminating the requirement to deploy the implant within seconds and BARRIGEL remains soft throughout deployment.
